Here is the Contact Marker it is marketed under the trademark WriteFit

A stainless steel hand instrument with replenishable graphite tip that indicates where contact exists between restorations. If you repair teeth you need this.

Let's face it, crowns, inlays and veneers fit perfectly, or loosely or they are tight.  It they are loose they have to go back to the laboratory, if they are perfect it is a blessed miracle, and if they are tight then you have to adjust them.  The question is how?  How are you adjusting your restorations for your patients?  Are you doing the best job possible?  You can tell me that you are using floss to test the contact, but you are really just guessing aren't you!  But mark the adjacent interproximal surface with graphite, and upon insertion the restoration is marked on the contact exactly.  Paper is not as good and so clumsy.

A picture is worth a thousand words so let's take a look.
